September’s Letter from the Curator (2017)

Dear Friends

Another fantastic Bank Holiday just disappearing over the horizon.  Everyone had great fun in the blazing sunshine at the Fairytale weekend, even the adults.  One father made me smile, “Excuse me Fairy God Mother, where is story time being held?” he asked.

How come those Princesses don’t age with time?  All stunningly beautiful and every little girl wants to grow up to be one.  As for the boys – Peter Pan?  No!  They want to be Knights in shining armour, capture the princess and disappear into the sunset and live happily ever after.  So the story says anyway!!

A massive thank you to everyone who supported the Fairytale weekend and hopefully we will see you at other events.  Don’t forget Bonfire Night, we have two evenings of beautiful fireworks displays. Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th November.  We are regularly voted one of the top five Bonfire Nights in the UK so that’s definitely something to remember!!

For the adults we have a few public events that you may be interested in.  Sex and the Tudors with Lesley Smith – Sunday 10th September.  A rip roaring journey through the sexual exploits of the Tudors over 16’s only please.  Tickets available on our website – www.tutburycastle.com.

Mary Queen of Scots with Lesley Smith – Sunday 10 September.  Mary speaks of her life as Queen of Scotland and France and her long imprisonment before her cruel execution. Be prepared, it’s brutal! Tickets available on our website – www.tutburycastle.com.

Do keep checking out our website for new events which take us nicely up to the Christmas period.

For Christmas we can tailor a party for your small cosy gathering in the Great Hall or for your large corporate event in our beautiful marquee.  If you are looking for something different then please do not forget Tutbury Castle – breathtaking views even in darkest winter with floodlights casting shadows over the castle ruins.

Stunning weddings are due to carry on well into the winter months and bookings for next year are beginning to take shape.

The gardens at the Castle look glamorous whatever time of year as our gardener has planted lots of seasonal plants which fit in with the history of their surroundings.

Please pay us a visit but remember that as from Monday 4th September our opening hours change slightly and we are open for business on Thursday to Friday inclusive.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

Best wishes

Lesley Smith
